| The
Smart Center will offer three Institutes at the
University of Houston
Campus for prospective teacher and current
teachers of IPC. Master Teachers of Chemistry
and Physics will conduct the Institutes. Inclusion
of everyday applications of the concepts is an
important segment of the Institute instruction.
Teachers will be provided with resources enabling
them to challenge and improve their students’
process and analytical skills. Each of the Institutes
will integrate Physics and Chemistry concepts
in the following areas:
-
ELECTRICITY
- Electrochemistry,
oxidation and reduction, batteries, photocells,
solar cells, half cells, electrolytic cells,
resistors, capacitors, and static electricity.
-
LIGHT
- Color, reflectance, refraction, transmittance,
interference, spectra, polarization, energy
levels, excited states, and atomic structure.
-
MAGNETISM
- Electromagnetism, electromagnetic fields
or forces, ferromagnetic elements, bar magnets,
ceramic magnets, and neodymium magnets
