The purpose of the Center
is to provide programs for the enhancement
of pre-college math and science teaching. The
SMART Center provides in-service and staff
development programs in chemistry, physics
and physical science for K-12 teachers. Some
of the current programs are Electricity, Light
and Magnetism Institutes for IPC teachers,
Enhancement of Chemical Science Concepts for
elementary and intermediate school teachers,
and Teaching Science with TOYS (Teaching
Our Youth Science) program created by Professor
Mickey Sarquis of the Center for Chemical Education
(CCE) at Miami University in Ohio.
Programs designed for high
school and elementary school students are also
